Echinacea tennesseensis potted plant, organic
$8.50
Family: Aster (Asteraceae)
Hardy to zones 5 to 9
(Tennessee Purple Coneflower) Deep purple, upwardly reflexed ray flowers distinguish this rare, endemic species native to Tennessee. Fastest Echinacea to make flowers from seed, a particularly robust garden plant that is just as universally adaptable as “purpurea.” Excellent adaptability to diverse and sometimes adverse conditions. Ah, the sheer beauty of its presentation! The wild distribution of Echinacea tennesseensis is extremely limited, and although the remaining stands are protected (listed federally as an endangered species) it is of paramount importance that gardeners throughout the US participate in the preservation of this unique species. More information can be found in my book “Growing At-Risk Medicinal Herbs, Cultivation Conservation and Ecology.” Space plants 2 feet apart.

Beautiful plant. Beware of rabbits while it’s still young and tender. I’ve had to fence it until it gets older and big.
