$3.95

Family: Custard Apple (Annonaceae)

Hardy to Zones 10 to 13, otherwise grown as a potted tree and brought in for the winter

(Sugar Apple)  Fast-growing deciduous tree to 10 feet, native to tropical America, fruiting in 2 to 3 years.  Fruit is creamy and sweet, studded with seeds which by the way should not be consumed.  Easy from seed.  Unlike many trees that grow best from cuttings, this tree is normally and successfully grown from seed.  Nick seed, soak  overnight in warm water and plant 1/2 inch deep in fast-draining medium and tamp securely.  Keep warm and evenly moist.  Germination in 4 to 6 weeks.  Work up in pots until large enough to withstand the rigors of the landscape.  Plant trees at least 15 feet apart.

Open Pollinated, Untreated, NO GMO’s

I am well familiar with this plant from St.Croix, VI – so delicious! I know this is a longshot, but what is the likelihood of it thriving in a high tunnel here in Southeastern Virginia?

      Hi Tabitha,
Thanks for writing and for dreaming. I can relate, as I have one in one of my heated greenhouses and it brings great joy. You high tunnel would have to be heated to a minimum temp of 55 degrees F. Richo
