Pregnant Onion (Ornithogalum longibracteatum) potted plant, organic

$8.50

Family:  Lily (Liliaceae)

Hardy to Zone 7 to 10, generally kept as an indoor plant and protected from frost

(Onion, Pregnant) Bulbous perennial succulent to 18 inches, native to South Africa.  Creating an aerial bulb with dark green onion-like leaves arising and drooping from it, the plant produces bulblets on its belly, therefore the “pregnant” adage.  Easily grown indoors, these are always showy and require very little care (water, nutrients, light, all minimal).  However, they are toxic to people and pets–do not eat them.  A little more on care and keep:  The main horticultural requirement is a fast-draining soil, so sand and pumice should be used in the mix.  Water very occasionally.  Keep in light from a bright window, or use as a summer potted plant on the patio.  The bulblets that appear at the midriff may be replanted with good results.  Space plants 6 inches apart.

  1. Question

When you say you are shipping plants to zones 2-5 starting in mid-May, do you have an exact date in May for Zones 4-5? I will be traveling part of the month but I want to ensure I am home to take delivery when the plants arrive. Thank you.

These are in 4 inch pots and are large to the pot, nice specimens. We have a policy of shipping largest plant first. r
