Cumin (Cuminum cyminum) seeds

$3.95$26.10

Family:  Carrot (Apiaceae)

Overwintering annual, hardy to zones 5 to 10.  When grown as an annual,  115 days to maturity.

Native to the Mediterranean and cultivated worldwide.  The seeds are an aromatic spice that make a perfect companion for salad dressings or cheese. Cumin is an ingredient of curry powder, and has a distinctive taste associated with ethnic foods of the Mediterranean Basin and India.  Traditional usage (TWM, Ayurveda): Carminative. Plant prefers full sun and fast-draining soils. Soak seeds in cold water overnight before planting.  Folks in very warm winter areas may have good results direct seeding this seed in the fall garden.  Otherwise, sow directly in garden bed in spring.  Germ in 1 to 3 weeks.  White or reddish flowers give way to heavy seed heads in the late summer.

Packet contains 300 seeds
5 g contains ~1,500 seeds
10 g contains ~3,000 seeds
Open-pollinated, Untreated, NO GMO’s

Is maturity on this 60 days or 115 days? Here on the website, it says 115, but the packet says 60 days. I’m in South Dakota so it makes a difference.

Getting ready for my new garden year and came across Fall/Winter 2014/2015 Catalog from Horizon Herbs, are you the same company? Address was nearly the same. Sat down and read the catalog, loved it and had to see if you were still around.

Yes, we are the same family-owned organically certified medicinal herb seed and nursery we’ve always been. We adopted our old trademark “strictly medicinal” when we hatched the idea of dropping dried herbs, bookshelf, and stuff to focus more on live things. all the horizon herbs and strictly medicinal catalogs are interchangeable. Feel free to request an updated catalog through this website or call us at (541) 846-6704. richo

I started cumin seeds indoors maybe 5 weeks ago. It looks like the baby plants already have small buds setting. Would it be advisable to snip them off at this point or will cumin flower throughout the season? Is cumin a day light sensitive flowerer? Many thanks for the blessings of seeds saved and shared! <3

      Hi Emily,
please send me a photo of the seedlings at herbseed (at) budget.net. My last test of cumin seed was low germ and I made it out of stock so I’m interested to see what you’ve got there.
