Centaury (Centaurium erythraea), packet of 100 seeds

$3.95

Family: Gentian (Gentianaceae)

Annual or overwintering annual flowering dark pink to 8 inches tall, native to Europe, the Mediterranean, Asia and North America.  Plant prefers nutrient-poor soils in sun to part shade and often grows in places that flood in the winter and become quite dry in the summer.  Leaves and flowers are a bitter tonic on the same level as Gentian, to which this little beauty is related.  Sow seed in fall or spring, work up in pots and plant to the summer garden.  Space 6 inches apart.
