Hardy to Zones 10 to 12, otherwise grown as an annual, 60 days to a show plant, 120 days to seed

Seeds and other parts of the plant toxic if ingested.  Educate children not to eat this plant or its seeds.

Originally native to Zanzibar, now widely introduced to southern climates.  Plants large and vibrant with bright red stalks and large, globular, red seed pods.  Even when grown as an annual, lends a tropical touch.  Give full sun and plenty of compost.  Direct seed in rich, composty hills in spring.

      hi matthew, as far as I know castor oil is the same coming from the different cultivars and ecotypes. I personally have used commercial castor oil and in a pinch simply applied the crushed seeds, always with good effect. richo
