Good germination from seed. Living in northern MN, I planted half the seedlings in pots to overwinter in a greenhouse and gambled planting the other half outside in the garden. Surprise! – the wood betony in the garden looks much healthier, especially having survived several nights of -35F with a light snow cover this winter, than the potted ones living the cushy life in the greenhouse. It is an absolutely beautiful plant! Looking forward to using it for its medicinal properties this season.

Hi! Any idea if Wood Betony is safe to be around fowl birds? I have backyard duck friends that are my garden pest patrol/ bringers of joy and I would ideally like to plant this in the waddling grounds.

Hello Kalili, Thanks for writing. Wood betony is amenable to pots and grows well in part shade or sun. A 3-gallon pot would be a good size for keeping a mature plant and producing enough leaves for tea or tincture. r
