Please note: We performed chromatographic analysis of the Amrita and the Rama cultivar and found them to be virtually identical. This plant and its seeds are now sold by us under the adage “Rama Tulsi.”

Question
Susan –
When can I expect the Tulsi, Rama (Ocimum tenuiflorum)? I would like to get this started inside, and transition to my medicinal outside garden in March. Zone 9. I’m on the waitlist.

I may have planted my baby Tulsi seedling too soon (mid March) outdoors in Z9, even with sunny days but temps at night got into low 50’s. The baby is wilted. I’ve covered her, but doesn’t seem to help. Our rain has stopped. Do you think she’ll come back? I’m going to order a 3-pack, now that the ground is warmer.

Hi Susan,
Right, I can relate. Cold temperatures can promote damping off which may be what you have there. This is a tropical perennial that grows well in warm temperate gardens. I was super duper lucky with tulsi this year and have scads of really nice ones shipping out right now. When you order the 3-pack, use the “customer comments” field to request a free replacement plant to be sent along with the new order. My experience is that one cannot possibly be oversupplied with tulsi. richo

Question
Sherry –
I’m a newbie to herbs trying to build up an apothecary with the most needed herbs for Health preventative care and for sickness. I need some good herbal medicine books as well. What would be your recommendations for herbs. Also read a little on holy basil Tulsi but it didn’t say which variety is the best.would like to add the plant to my garden but I’m in zone 7b

Richo Cech –
Hi Sherry, Thanks for contacting. A zone 7b is pretty mellow. One of the good things about building up an apothecary is the long shelf life of herbal tinctures, compact storage, ease of use. I recommend “making plant medicine.” Check our various seed collections like “first time” and “Glorious Garden.” These are going to cover the majority of needs. As for tulsi, the easiest is to grow temperate tulsi but the most potent is krishna tulsi. too late in the year to start tulsi, you’re looking at next year at this point, richo

I’m also hoping for tulsi rama. Will this be available this spring? I don’t see a “waitlist” as you suggested, only a wishlist. I assume they’re the same? If they don’t come available, Is there a second variety you would suggest?

Hi Tricia, Sorry, hit “choose a quantity” and waitlist green button will appear. I am going to fulfill existing orders, reassess stock and re-enable sales. Too many orders too early and plants too small. I have a lot coming on strong. Stay tuned. Richo
