(Garden Thyme, Common Thyme) Evergreen woody subshrub native to the Mediterranean and selected in England. Excellent as a spice, this is the variety that is highest in the active essential oils and is considered official. The herb is not only tasty when added to meat dishes, egg dishes and vegetarian entrees, but makes a tasty tea (dry it first). This cultivar produces perfect mound-shaped (hemispherical) plants that live up to 20 years. Prefers full sun and dryish soils. We mulch our’s with sand or pumice. Space plants 2 to 3 feet apart.
Potted plant, certified organically grown

Hi Mary, By the time these start to go out to gardeners in April, they will probably be 6 inches or so. We aim to give a healthy starter plant and recommend pruning to shape and repotting to a gallon for several weeks before transplanting outdoors. richo

hi shelly, thanks for writing. thyme does great as an indoor plant on a bright windowsill. its always there to offer a pinch to eggs or stew, or, as the snow falls, a contemplative chew. richo

Thanks! I’m assuming I can then transplant it outside in the spring?

hi shelley, yes, precisely, although it is good to accustom the plant to full sun rather gradually, I have had them drop all their leaves when going from a sheltered position into full sun. richo
