(Saline Plantain of the Oregon Coast) Perennial halophyte. Native to the coast of Oregon and California. The flowering stalks are handsome and conspicuous. Prefers clayey, sodden ground; full sun to part shade. Sow seed in the spring. Barely cover with soil, tamp securely and keep warm and evenly moist until germination, which is rapid. Thin or transplant to 1 foot apart. Flowers to 3 feet tall.
