( Yellow Peacock Flower, Mexican Holdback, Tabachin del Monte ) Woody shrub to small tree native to Southern Texas, Mexico, Baja and hardy to 15 degrees F–excellent in greenhouse or outdoors in American SW, Southern California, Florida, Gulf Coast, Mexico, Subtropics, Tropics, and any arid to semi-arid frost free zone worldwide. The bush blooms frequently and is quite ornamental. Juice of the leaves is used as a febrifuge , the juice from the flowers is used externally against open lesions, and the seeds are used for treating upper respiratory problems. The root is considered abortifacient, so clearly not to be used during pregnancy. Scarify through the seedcoat by nicking with a blade or rubbing on sandpaper, then, soak overnight and sow warm.
