(Air Plant, Mother of Thousands) A curious plant which we originally sourced in the wild from the northern tip of Pemba in the Zanzibar archipelago.  Succulent and comely, an excellent house plant which likes moist, warm conditions and shade. The plant will propagate itself from plantlets borne on the leaf margin.  You can pin a leaf to the wall and it will make roots, followed by miniature plants, which eventually grow into a start that falls from the mother and can be replanted (or replants itself!) . You can leave a leaf in a dry pot of soil and it will maintain its life force for many months.   Plant grows great indoors, on the windowsill or in the solarium.  An easy plant to have success with, they do best in gallons and can provide companionship and solace during the hours when we find ourselves indoors.  Large plants will flower with dangling bells.  Nurse plant for ladybugs. Traditional uses (TAM): poultice, diabetes.   Space plants 1 to 2 feet apart.

I don’t know why I am so drawn to this plant, but when I unboxed it, I just couldn’t stop admiring it. The packing job was superb, and the plant was in great shape. It is a gift for my sister, who took an unexpected trip, so I emailed SM and asked to have it delivered to me, since her hubby has a black thumb. Thank you so much for helping me reroute it’s destination. I can’t wait to give it to my sister! I hope she likes it as much as I do!

      Hi Loretta,
Anybody can grow this plant I think, or it will grow itself without any help!
