Iceplant, Crystalline (Mesembryanthemum crystallinum), packet of 50 seeds [CA NO]

$3.95

Family:  Ice Plant (Aizoaceae)
Hardy to Zones 8 to 12
(Common Ice Plant, Crystalline Iceplant) Perennial succulent to 4 inches tall, native to South Africa. The plant creates a low carpet, glistens in the sunlight, and produces oversize flowers that resemble sea anemones.  The leaves provide a safe trailside nibble and are sometimes pickled.  Traditional usage (South African tribes, TWM): demulcent application to sunburn or minor lesions.  Often used as a decorative bedding plant in temperate gardens or in seaside gardens, the plant does well in poor soil or beach sand.  Sow seed on surface of fast draining medium and press in hard, keep warm, in the light and evenly moist until germination, which takes between 3 days and 3 weeks.  The seedlings are very small at first, and need to be grown out in pots for some time until they are big enough to transplant to the rock garden.

50 seeds/pkt, Open Pollinated, Untreated, NO GMO’s [not available to the state of California]
