(Early Spinach, Poor-man’s Asparagus, Perennial Goosefoot, Lincolnshire Spinach, Markery)Low-clumping perennial native to central Europe. A traditional vegetable of the cottage garden, the leaves and young shoots are picked in the spring and steamed as a nutritious and healthful potherb.  Plant prefers sun to part shade and regular garden soil.  Sow seed in the spring, directly in the garden bed or in pots in the greenhouse.  Germination takes 1 to 3 weeks and is sporadic and ongoing.  Thin or transplant to 1 foot apart.
