Geranium, Umcka (Garnet Geranium) (Pelargonium sidoides), packet of 5 seeds, organic
$4.95
Family: Geranium (Geraniaceae)
Hardy to Zone 8 to 12, otherwise grown as a summer annual or potted plant, brought in for the winter
(Garnet Geranium) Evergreen mounding perennial native to South Africa. The plant smells great and is forgiving to the touch, a soft mound of leaves giving rise to a sparse crown of red-purple flowers spring through midsummer. The fleshy root is a traditional Zulu remedy for treating upper respiratory infections, including bronchitis, sinusitis, sore throat, colds, flu and tuberculosis (TB). New studies are showing a potent anti-HIV effect. Plant prefers full sun, moderate water and fertile soil. Sow seed just below soil surface and keep evenly moist until germ. Oscillating temperatures will encourage germination, which begins three weeks after planting, with ongoing germination for months thereafter. Work the plants up in successively larger pots and transplant to the open garden or field only after they are well established.

This is available on an ongoing basis. Please hit waitlist. The plants are flowering freely but are stingy about making seeds in the winter, it may have to wait until spring. richo

the umcka manufacturers slice the root, dry the pieces, grind them up and put them in capsules or compress into pills. that is one way to do it. you could also tincture according to standard tincture formula in “making plant medicine” or grind and take neat as is done in ayurveda. you have options.

Hello Rafi, This is the famous S. African Umckaloides. It is a different species than the scented geraniums, and unlike them, the part used is the root, not the aerials. Richo
