Dong-ling-cao (Isodon rubescens), potted plant, organic
$8.50
Family: Mint (Lamiaceae)
Hardy to Zone 7 to 11
(Blushred rhabdosia) Herbaceous perennial native to China. Short, basil-like plants do eventually become semi-woody shrubs to 2 feet tall. The flowers are long-lasting and showy. Traditional useage (TCM): Breast cancer. Source of diterpenoic molecules oridonin and rebescenin. Plant prefers normal garden conditions, with sun and regular watering. These are pretty on a border and tend to size themselves well in potted culture. I have had them live for years in pots with little attention, also perennialize solidly and make sturdy bushes in outdoor culture. Plant prefers normal garden conditions, with sun and regular watering.

Hi there. When will this plant (or even seeds) come back in stock?

I have this in mind and am working on it. In our Z 8 it seems to overwinter pretty well but the flowers usually freeze before making seeds. challenging. richo

Admin Richo Cech –
Hello Nieves,
Dong-ling-cao becomes woody with age and may be cut back in the fall, overwintering as a woody crown. It never looks like much is happening but does come back in a Zone 7, shooting up new growth in midspring. If you want to hold a potted plant over the winter, my advice is to put it in a cold (or heated!) greenhouse.
