Hardy to Zones 10 to 12

Tropical evergreen shrub native to Amazonia. Flowers white to a height of 10 feet.   Famous source of DMT that is combined with the MAOI Banisteriopsis caapi to produce ayahuasca.  Plant prefers a warm position with part shade, frequent watering.   Seeds are slow to germinate.  Scarify on sandpaper and plant in fast-draining medium in warm conditions.  2 to 9 month germination period is typical.  My experience is that despite the long wait, the seedlings emerge all at once.  Keep as potted plant or space plants 6 feet apart.
