Castor, New Zealand Purple (Ricinus communis) packet of 5 seeds, organic

$3.95

Family: Spurge (Euphorbiaceae)

Hardy to Zones 10 to 12, otherwise grown as an annual, 60 days to a show plant, 120 days to seed

Seeds and other parts of the plant toxic if ingested.  Educate children not to eat this plant or its seeds.

Perennial Native to New Zealand.   Grows up to 9 feet in a season, with almost metallic, reddish-purple tinged, deeply-lobed leaves. Even when grown as an annual, lends a tropical touch.  Give full sun and plenty of compost.  Direct seed in spring.  Space plants about 6 feet apart–they really do get quite large. This is the only castor I know of that readily self-seeds in temperate gardens.

5 seeds/pkt., Certified Organically Grown
