Herbaceous perennial. Native to the Western US. The plant bears luxurious, umbrella-shaped leaves. Plant prefers gravelly soils, regular garden soils, and/or streamside habitat. Will take sun or shade. Traditional use (TWM, Native American): topical use for alleviating pain and swelling. Sow seeds on surface of moist potting soil, press in firmly, and keep evenly moist and warm until germination, which is rapid–5 day germination under lights. Work seedlings up in larger pots until sufficiently sized to transplant to garden or streamside. Space plants 1 foot apart.
