Could the Bodhi tree do well in my zone 9b/10, SW Florida (Tampa area). Should I have acid soil or try to make the soil a bit more alkaline? I plan to grow it outside if possible. Thank you.

they are a fig, so drought tolerant. Needs bright light, warmth. They size themselves to the pot so if you don’t have much space, keep the pot small. they get very large and woody in a half-barrel. r

I ordered twice already . My first 2 plants grow beautifully, the leaves is 5 times bigger to compare with the original when I received . the heart shape leaf is very beautiful .
I don’t know I have a green thump or lucky like Jack w/his bonsai, but….I will pray for it.
Thank so much for Strictly Medicinal Seeds for this beautiful plant. BTW, I so impressed the way you packed the tree for shipping.

From one little tree, many more

    Jack

I got my first Bodhi from this site in 2012, with the intention of learning how to make bonsai. That tree is now 10 years old, 18″ tall, 18″ wide, with a 1.25″ trunk.

I’ve potted 14 successful cuttings (out of 19 total) in the last three years. From this one little 4″ sprout, I have 15 thriving bonsai. The failed cutting were my own ignorance in the learning process.

I can’t recommend these trees highly enough.

hi leo, thanks for writing. tropical trees of this type do best with warm season cuttings. Spring, summer or fall, and a good greenhouse or grow lights are essential. Take the cuttings when the plant is growing fast. Use a thicker branch, removed with a heel (see my book “Growing Plant Medicine”), remove all leaves and make sure there is a solid terminal bud. Do not allow cutting to dry out, but soak immediately heel down in willow tip water or kelp tea. Non-organic growers use growth hormones. Stick 2 inches deep into a 4-inch pot filled with sand, or use a thick sand bed in a double-bubble in a heated greenhouse. Keep moist but not sodden. New roots and branches will grow. I actually don’t propagate bodhi tree from cuttings, as the seedlings make better plants in the long run, and bodhi is easy from seeds. richo

Hi Danielle, Good, thank you, we have grown these trees in good faith and are relieved when we hear they arrive to someone who appreciates and will take good care of them–they are our babies. I think its true, San Francisco is a good place for growing Bodhi Tree, and they do grow rapidly. As for waiting, well, gardening is all about doing and then waiting. Without the waiting, the plants have no time to grow and prosper! Richo

Hi Richo. You have just solved a mystery for my brother and I. A few years ago, he was gifted a cutting of a gorgeous plant with heart shaped leaves and an extended pointed tip. We have looked everywhere to find the name of it. It has grown to about four feet tall, and he keeps it indoors year round, in a west facing window. It is a stunner! I am here at your site shopping for my 2021 garden and voila! The mystery of My brother’s tree has been solved, thanks to YOU 🙂
Thank you so much for offering this beauty- I have added my email address to receive notification of when it can be purchased, I am overjoyed! May you, your family, and your business continue to thrive in abundant health and well-being.

Is any part of this tree poisonous for people or pets? I have a cat, and a 5 year old son. I REALLY want a couple of these, but have to make sure it’s safe. They would be indoor plants. BTW, I live in Oregon! I saw your reply to someone saying you’re an Oregon nursery 🙂

Hello Anndrea, The Bodhi tree leaves are neither poisonous nor tasty–I think it is extremely unlikely that pets or children will want to eat them. They make an exceptional indoor tree and are extremely long-lived and exert a calming influence on the immediate environment. Richo

I just ordered a set of three of your Bodhi seedlings and eagerly await their arrival. I also ordered a packet of seeds. I’m curious if the origin of your Bodhi trees are the same as your seeds; “Seed came from progeny produced by the tree under which Buddha obtained enlightenment.“ One of the seedlings I ordered will be given as a gift to a Buddhist friend and am very interested to know. Thank you.
