Belladonna, Caucasica (Atropa belladonna ssp. caucasica) seeds, organic
$4.95 – $20.00
Family: Nightshade (Solanacea)
Hardy to Zones 5 to 9
Herbaceous perennial ecotype native to the northern Caucasus. Flowers to 3 feet tall. The Caucasus are the mountains at the intersection of Asia and Europe, between the Black Sea and the Caspian Sea. Rare. Traditional usage (TWM): external application as a muscle relaxant and pain reliever. Do not ingest. Plant is more drought tolerant than other belladonna types and will withstand full sun. Sow seeds just sub-surface and tamp. The seed germinates well in standard potting soil. Keep planting warm, moist and in the light until germination, which takes about 2 weeks. Work plants up in successively larger pots until sufficiently robust to transplant to garden or landscape. Space plants 2 feet apart.

Hey Richo, I’m taking the belladonna out of the fridge tonight, do they germ better in light or shaded conditions?

Hi Steph, good call, full moon rising. Like you I’ve been prechilling the seed and planting in warm soil under lights with rampant germ in 2 or 3 weeks. I don’t think they need dark for germ but I do cover with a thin layer of soil. richo
