Bean, Mayocoba Bush (Phaseolus vulgaris), packet of 20 seeds, organic
$2.95
Family: Legume (Fabacea)
Annual. 85 days from pushing seed into soil to harvest in dry-bean stage.
(Peruvian Bean, Peruano, Canary Bean, Canario, Mexican Yellow Bean) Native to Peru, this is one of the most compact bean plants I have ever grown–truly a bush bean, making a dense crown of long, thin, usually 6-seeded pods that mature quickly. I imagine this would be a very good choice for container planting and small gardens, or for row-cropping in larger gardens. The bean itself is small–similar in size to a navy bean–and yellow or ivory in color. Cooked, these beans are mild-flavored, buttery and creamy. They are traditionally used in re-frieds. These beans will appreciate a fertile soil in the full sun and regular watering. They do not require a trellis. Space plants a foot apart.
