$2.95

Family: Legume (Fabacea)

Annual, maturing in 85 days.

(Trout Bean, Appaloosa Bean)  Heirloom upright bush bean dating back to the 1600’s, originally gifted from the Passamaquoddy Indians of Maine.  Slow-cooked, the flavor is rich and nutty.  Sow beans in the spring, in full sun, directly in the rich garden bed.  Push beans in about 1 inch deep and tamp.  Thin to 6 to 12 inches apart.  Keep weeded and water on a weekly basis unless rains do the watering for you.  All beans may be picked when young for fresh use, otherwise wait until the pods get crinkly dry before picking and threshing. These store exceptionally well.
