(Yellow Peacock Flower, Mexican Holdback, Tabachin del Monte, Mexican Bird of Paradise)   Woody shrub to small tree to 12 feet native to Southern Texas, Mexico, Baja–excellent in greenhouse or outdoors in American SW, Southern California, Florida, Gulf Coast, Mexico, Subtropics, Tropics, and any arid to semiarid zone worldwide.  This drought- and heat-tolerant nitrogen-fixing bush blooms frequently and is quite ornamental.  Traditional Use (TWM): Juice of the leaves is used as a febrifuge, the juice from the flowers is used externally against open lesions, and the seeds are used for treating upper respiratory problems.  Scarify through the seedcoat by nicking with a blade or rubbing on sandpaper, then, soak overnight in water and sow in warm, fast-draining mix.  Space plants 6 feet apart.
