(Jiu-yan-du-huo, Japanese Spikenard) Herbaceous perennial to 7 feet, Native to Japan.  The new spring shoots are an edible delicacy. Traditional usage (TCM):  a substitute for Ginseng, like Ginseng exerting a tonic and stomachic influence.  Plant prefers part shade and rich, moist soils.   Rare, choice and very desirable.  Space plants 2 to 3 feet apart.
