(Twin Leaf, Rheumatism Root) Herbaceous perennial forest dweller native to the eastern US. This forest beauty has paired, plate-like leaves that are succulently green, and a large, perfectly white flower. The plants glean raindrops and magnify them just like a lady’s mantle. Traditional usage of fresh or dried root (TWM, Native American): acrid expectorant, sore gums, herpes lesions. Low dose botanical. Plant prefers full or dappled shade and moist, lime-rich soil. Our seed is kept fresh and refrigerated for best results. Sow immediately upon receipt, in a flat in the shade house or directly in the shade garden or woodlands. If you choose to sow directly in the garden, lift back the mulch and sow the seeds just under the surface of the soil, then replace the mulch. I find these to be dependable germinators. The seedlings will emerge in the spring, and they are quite delicate in the first year, so allow them to grow for another year or two before transplanting out to 1 foot spacing. Transplant in the fall.
