$3.95

Family: Nightshade (Solanacea)

Annual.  90 days to harvest.

(Easter Island Tobacco, Ava-Ava)  Originally from Easter Island, this is a pretty plant, with generous clusters of large, light-yellow flowers to 3 feet tall.  The leaves are ovoid, somewhat smaller than those of Hopi Tobacco, which this plant does resemble, and considered to be very potent.   Tobacco likes full sun and a nitrogen-rich soil. Press small seeds into surface of soil and keep evenly moist and in the light until germination.  Thin or transplant to 2 feet apart.

100 seeds/pkt., Certified Organically Grown

These things love to grow like tabacum once they get going. Very potent in alkaloids also!

hi lesley, yes, a flowering tobacco plant is a happy tobacco plant. commercial growers will take the flowers off but we don’t need to worry about that. to process, in short, wait until the larger leaves are beginning to yellow, remove them from the plant and hang on string under the rafters of an outbuilding where they can take on moisture at night and dry during the day. this cures them. when they are golden colored, wait until they are moist and flexible (like early AM or after a rain) and roll the leaf and cut it in thin slices to make standard crinkly cut tobacco. this is a short synopsis of the technique that was printed for years in our catalogue. r
