(Red Thyme, Tumillo) Evergreen woody perennial subshrub native to the Iberian Peninsula, flowering white to pale pink to 12 inches tall.  The leaves are narrow and aromatic.  Dried leaves of this species commonly traded as standard thyme spice.  Traditional uses (TWM): condiment, preservative, carminative, antioxidant, throat infection to general malaise.  Antiparasitic.  Diarrhea, upset stomach.  Antiseptic to wounds.  Source of thymol and carvacrol.  Surface disinfectant and antifungal.  Plant prefers sun and the perfect drainage afforded by rockery, gravel or sand. Space plants 1 to 2 feet apart.
