Thyme, English Broadleaf (Thymus vulgaris) seeds, organic

$3.95$44.10

Family:  Mint (Lamiaceae)

Hardy to Zones 6 to 10.  May be grown as an annual, 90 days to harvest.

(Garden Thyme, Common Thyme) Evergreen woody subshrub native to the Mediterranean and selected in England.  Excellent as a spice, this is the variety that is highest in the active essential oils and is considered official.  The herb is not only tasty when added to meat dishes, egg dishes and vegeterian entrees, but makes a tasty tea (dry it first).  This cultivar produces perfect mound-shaped (hemispherical)  plants that live up to 20 years.  Prefers full sun and dryish soils.  Sow the seed in the spring, barely under the soil surface, tamp in securely, and keep warm and moist until germination, which usually takes a week or two.  Easy from seed, and very rewarding.  Space plants 3 feet apart.
