(Garden Myrrh, Sweet Chervil) Herbaceous perennial native to Europe and Asia.  The plant exudes the fragrance of Anise from its ferny leaves, white terminal umbels and deeply grooved, resiny seeds.  The seeds are the part that earned this plant the name “myrrh,” as they are shellacked with resin.  Garden myrrh is a food plant used raw in salads.  Leaf, stem and/or young root may be simmered with other vegetables. The dried herb can be made into a good tea.  Traditional uses (TWM): nutritive, carminative, stomachic, blood cleansing.  Plant prefers rich garden soil of shade garden or woodland–part to full shade.  Sow in fall or early spring for germ in the spring.  These do require cold soil for germination, and germ is usually slow–6 weeks or so.  Very impressive and characteristic germinators.  Space 1 to 2 feet apart.  Flowers white, 2 to 4 feet tall.

      Hi Paul,
      Actually it isn’t at all related. They call it “garden myrrh” because of the resinous seedpods. Its not a burnable incense, its an edible vegetable. richo

    Packet says to give “30 days moist refrigeration” and I’m not sure what this means. Wrap seeds in damp paper towels? Place in a jar of water? Put them in a small amount of wet soil? Pardon my ignorance, and thank you for your help!
