The spikenard plants I bought from you 4 years ago have fruited two years in a row now. They’re deliciously sweet little berries. You can taste the medicinal quality in them. I am hoping to harvest some of the root once the plants die back but want to do so in such a way that my plants return next year. The smaller of my two plants seems to be cloning itself and has three main trunks to its little thicket. My other plant is much larger but hasn’t begun creating its clones yet; it remains as a single plant. How can I harvest of these plants? Is it as simple as a root trim and then replanting the crown? I didn’t see info about this particular species in your book, so I figured I would ask here! Watching the spikenard plants grow over the last couple of years and then watching the berries ripen is one of the most fascinating things to do, for those who are wanting to get some of these plants. I highly recommend them!

yes, you have that right, dig the entire plant in dormancy, use the roots and rebury the crown. It will resprout. Another option, you can split the crown into several sections and plant each piece in a gallon pot and grow on for a year before setting out.
