Speedwell, Common (Veronica officinalis), potted plant, organic

$8.50

Family:  Figwort (Scrophulariaceae)
Hardy to Zones 3 to 7
Perennial creeper native to Eurasia.  A good choice as a ground cover in herbal gardens, the speedwell will grow in almost any soil, in shade to full sun.  The plant makes a good groundcover under trees, and drapes admirably over rocks.  The pale blue flowers give way to seedpods that are inverted hearts.  The seed is flattened and orange, like tiny gold doubloons.  Medicinally, the plant has an ancient history of usage, considered to contain great virtue as an alterative and urinary and upper respiratory tonic.  Although the plant has largely fallen out of use, herbies are beginning to understand it and employ it once again.  Our knowledge expands with our plant base. Space 6 inches to one foot apart .  The plants will spread to form a cushy mat.

Potted plant, Certified Organically Grown
