(Cancer Weed, Lyre Leaf Sage) Herbaceous perennial native to central and eastern US. Basal leaves bear striking purple variegations, the outer margin resembling perhaps the shape of a lyre. Flowers pale blue to lavender, deep throated, with a characteristic dorsal ridge, on a raceme to 18 inches tall. Grows in regular garden soils and is particularly fond of growing in lawns, where it co-exists harmlessly with lawn grass. Space plants 1 to 2 feet apart.
