Rhubarb, Garden, Victoria (Rheum rhabarbarum), packet of 50 seeds, organic
$2.95
Family: Buckwheat (Polygonaceae)
Hardy to zone 4 to 10.
Herbaceous perennial. This is one of the very fast growing varieties that is a commonly sold in farmer’s markets. Victoria produces relatively sweet, fat, green-blushed-with-red, pie-and-crisp able and sell-able stems in the first year. Rhubarb thrives in full sun and composty soil. Start the seeds in the spring and work them up in successively larger pots, then transplant to the garden. Give these plants plenty of room–at least 3 feet between plants–depending on water and nutrient availability, they can get extremely large. As you can see by the gallery, some of the stalks may attain a width of 2 inches. That is a lot of pie.

Has anyone cooked rhubarb with Sweet Cecily & Angelica to break down oxalic acid, instead of having to add boatloads of sugar?
