Poppy, Flanders (Papaver rhoeas) seeds, Organic
$3.95 – $26.10
Family: Poppy (Papaveraceae)
Annual, 90 days from seeds to flowers
(Corn Poppy, Shirley Poppy)
Next to California poppy, the most vigorously self-seeding of the poppies. Source of rhoedine. Traditional use (TWM): dried flowers used to make a tea that is gently sedative and antitussive. Also made into a cough syrup for children. There are reports of allergenic reactions to ingestion of larger doses of the whole plant, which should be avoided. Plant prefers full sun and regular garden soils, abandoned fields, poor soil. Sow in early spring by scattering seed on surface of prepared seedbed or in pots and keep evenly moist until germination, which is rapid. Generally these do best when allowed to go wild, and thinning, cultivation and primping are not really necessary. They find their place and make their show. We give a generous packet in order to encourage scattering of the seed.
