$4.95
Family: Poke (Phytolaccaceae)
Hardy to Zones 7 to 10
(Indian Poke) Herbaceous perennial. Native to China and Japan. A rare collection of an unusual species. Bears waxy, white, ornamental flowers in multiple, upright racemes that give way to blue-black fruits, divided in even sections like a Danish pastry. Cultivation and medical use similar to Phytolacca americana. Low-dose botanical. Sow seeds in spring, directly in garden bed or in pots. Slow, spotty germination is typical, requiring from 2 to 6 weeks for first appearance of seedlings. For instance, in 2020 we recorded a 31 day germination period in a 55 degree minimum temp greenhouse. Space 3 feet apart.
