Native to Europe and Asia. This cultivar from Italy. With stems and leaves of vibrant crimson, red orach makes a majestic, waist-high plume in the garden. The fresh leaves are a prime addition to salads and commercial mesclun mixes. The cooked leaves are nutritious and buttery to the taste. The seeds are good in baking. Slow-to-bolt plant prefers full sun, regular garden soil and water. Sow in spring. Easy.
