Family:  Moraceae ( the Mulberry or Fig Family)

Hardy to Zones 4 to 9

(Common Mulberry, Sang-zhi) Deciduous tree to 60 feet tall and half as wide, generally single-trunked, self-fertile, with inconspicuous flowers that give way to sweet, white fruits.  Native to East Asia and China, the tree yields edible leaves and fruits, medicinal bark and a flexible, white wood that is durable, used for making handles for tools, also musical instruments and sports equipment.  Traditional usage (TCM): One of the Chinese herbs that helps dispel wind-dampness.  All parts of the tree are utilized,  including root bark, bark, wood, twigs, leaves and fruits.  The plant is antibacterial, antifungal and astringent, used in treating colds, influenza, eye infections, nosebleed, toothache, tinnitus, urinary incontinence, hypertension and carbuncles.  Treats pain, numbness, itching and edema.  The plant is nonirritating and nontoxic.  The leaves are edible although not particularly palatable, and are high in protein, magnesium and sugar.  The fruits are excellent for attracting and feeding birds, and are quite tasty if allowed to ripen.  They make very sweet raisins.  Tree prefers sun to part shade and moist, well-drained soils although it is quite drought-tolerant once established.  Planting from seed works well as long as the stratification requirements are satisfied.  Seed sown outdoors in the fall will germinate in the spring.  Alternatively, seed may be mixed into moist medium and refrigerated for 2 to 3 months, then planted in cool shade.  Prick seedlings into gallon pots and grow on for a year before transplanting to landscape.  Space trees 30 feet apart.

100 seeds per packet, Open-pollinated, untreated, NO GMO’s
