Family: Mint (Lamiaceae)
Annual or biennial. Native to Siberia, Manchuria, China and Mongolia. All zones. Multiple, lithe stems topped by ever-blooming, red and purple racemes that produce much nectar and make nice cut flowers. HArvest during very early flowering stage for medicine, dry and make tea or tincture. Plant prefers to grow in moist garden soil in sun to part shade. Flowers to 6 feet tall.

Thanks for writing! If you click on the main photo it brings up the monographs so you can compare and contrast. Siberian Motherwort is annual or biennial–cardiaca is perennial. Mainly practitioners of oriental medicine are going to want to use the chinese types, while western herbalists will prefer the european. All of them are “good for mother.” Richo
