Tough perennial native to Southwestern US and Mexico. Bright yellow flowers during midwinter rains. Plant prefers full sun, fast-draining soils, very little by way of nutrients and water, a fuzzy-leaved xerophyte. Easy to sprout and grow. Sow seed in the garden or in flats in the spring or summer. Lay seed flat on surface, barely cover with soil, tamp well and keep warm and evenly moist until germination, which takes about a week. Thin or transplant to 1 foot apart.
