Compact head lettuce with dark green leaves shot through with burgundy.  Rounded leaves are extraordinarily tender and tasty.  This is our favorite lettuce, actually, as it grows very well for us and satisfies both visual and tactile sensations.  Sow seed in cool garden conditions by barely covering with soil, tamping well and keeping evenly moist until germination.  Thin to 1 foot apart.
