Kiss-Me-Over-the-Garden-Gate (Persicaria orientalis) seeds, organic

$3.95$60.00

Family:  Buckwheat (Polygonaceae)

Annual, 90 days to flowers

(Prince’s Feather, Kiss me Over the Garden Gate, Hong-cao, Polygonum orientale) Native to China.  Plant to 9 feet tall produces arching sprays of stems weighed down by dangling, sausage-shaped clusters of dark pink inflorescences. A Zen landscape plant. Traditional usage (TCM): relieves flatulence, brightens the eyes.  Scarify seed on sandpaper and sow in fall for germination in the spring, or scarify and give 3 weeks refrigeration in moist medium (sand, peat or coir) before planting.  Once the seed becomes established in the seed bank, the herb tends to volunteer when you least expect it in a place of its own choosing.  I have learned to recognize the seedlings, and allow one or two to grow every year, where they will.  They dance kinetically and are quite beautiful.

hi! It is an annual. It isn’t really much like the common buckwheat, though. It has to grow very fast to get as big as it does, and mature its showy flowers. You can just plant it in the early spring. It might make sense to scarify and cold/moist refrigerate first, these have a strong dormancy. richo

yes, these are an overwintering annual or an easy annual for you. plant early, so they get enough cold to sprout. r
