Indigo, Wild (Baptisia tinctoria), potted plant, organic

$8.50

Family:  Legume (Fabaceae)

Hardy to zones 3 to 9

Herbaceous perennial with leathery leaves and bright yellow flowers with distinctive black wings.  Seedpods decorative, blue-black.  Native to the American Southeastern seaboard and Southern states.  Blue dye-plant. Traditional usage of the tincture of dried root (TWM, Eclectic): Sore throat, smoldering infections.   Plant prefers full sun and dry or gravelly soil.  These are dependent on a supportive mycoecology.  It may be helpful to plant in soils that have previously grown legumes or to inoculate with a broad spectrum mycorrhizal inoculant. Work seedlings up in successively larger pots and set to landscape after sufficiently sized.  Space 2 to 3 feet apart.
