    Hello Richo Cech:
I was considering purchasing goldenrod. I have a question in regards to how it spreads as I read it was invasive. Does it spread by rhizomes or is it clumping where I could have a little more control of it? Thank you, Christine

Goldenrod spreads rhizomatously and also self-seeds. It can be very pesky and is a great medicinal herb. If you want it, harvest in full flower. If you don’t want it, mow it or till it. richo

I have seed of 5 different types, Blue Stemmed (caesia), zig zag (flexicaulis), Bog (uliginosa), Showy (speciosa) and Cliff (sciaphila). Does this matter medicinally?

hi jennifer, It does matter. European herbalists swear by S. virgaurea, another species S. odora is equally useful, and S. canadensis or S. gigantea are also useful. richo

hi lorena, we list this to zone 8 due to heat sensitivity but some authorities do list it to zone 9. my approach is to try everything and keep what works. richo
