Herbaceous perennial prairie dweller native to the central and eastern US.  Narrow basal leaves bear magnificent spikes of purple flowers.  Butterfly attractor.  Traditional usage (Native American): snakebite.   Plant prefers sun to part shade and regular garden soils or clay soils.  We have rubbed this seed to remove the pappus–it is ready to go!  Easy from seed.  Barely cover seed and keep moist until germination.
