(Black Root) Herbaceous perennial. Native to eastern and central USA. Rare. Produces multiple beautiful spikes of showy, white flowers. Traditional usage (Native American, TWM): aged root only, to tonify liver, laxative. In the herbal garden, a showpeace plant that is dearly loved, easy to get going, and reappears without complaint but with fanfare every year. Light dependent germinator. Sow in early spring or cold condition at least 2 weeks. Space plants 2 feet apart. Flowers to 4 feet tall.
