Bulbous biennial native to Europe, flowering white in the second year to a height of 24 inches.  In the wild, generally found in dense populations along riverbanks.  The plant produces a root that can be cooked like a potato and is quite tasty.  Likened to chestnut in flavor.  Sow seed fall or spring.  Requires 8 to 12 weeks of cold stratification and germinates in cool soils.   Space plants 6 inches apart.
