Bulbous herbaceous perennial. Native to the NW. Prefers moist garden soil of meadowland that is moist in the spring and gets dry in the summer. Flowers deep blue violet, on long racemes, excellent for cutting. Bulbs a major foodstuff of the Native Americans, roasted in pits, providing a sweet and nutritious staple food. The potted plants will go dormant after making flowers and seeds, so late orders may be fulfilled with a pot containing dormant bulbs. These should be planted 3 inches deep and 6 inches apart. Flowers deep blue violet, on long racemes, excellent for cutting. Space plants 6 inches apart.

Note: Blue Camas (Camassia quamash) should not be confused with the (poisonous and relatively inodorous) Death Camas (Zigadenus venenosus), which makes flowers of creamy white.
