Annual or overwintering annual, 80 to 100 days to harvest, fall planted zones 7 to 10, spring planted zones 6 and under
(Bell Beans) Extremely vigorous legume that may be mixed with peas, vetch, or oats for cover-cropping or grown by itself. Reaching from 3 to 6 feet tall, with thick stems and leaves, Fava Beans give superior yield of soil-building carbon (biomass) and also fix 150 lbs of nitrogen per acre. The strong root system aerates the soil and brings up deeply seated minerals and nutrients. Sow in fall or spring at the rate of 2 lb per 1,000 square feet or 8 lb per acre.
Packet contains 20 seeds
Otherwise, sold by the pound, Certified Organically Grown

Hi Richo, Are these also available by the pound? I see only ‘packet’ available under Choose a Quantity. I would like to purchase by the pound.

In zone 6 is it ok to start inside or preferred to wait until the ground can be broken and plant first thing in the garden?

Hi Jeanne, Thanks for staying in touch. Most of us don’t start fava beans indoors–they work just fine pushed into the soil in the spring in a zone 6. Richo

Yes, I have often grown these as an early-spring-planted annual with good results. r
