Thai Basil is a showy, globe-shaped plant with medium-sized, lance-shaped leaves, green at base of plant, and purple toward the apex; flowers purple to bronze. Spicy variety preferred for Thai cooking. Notes of clove and anise. Unlike sweet basil types, the thai basil maintains its flavor in cooking. Standard basil culture. Sow seeds in pots or directly in the spring garden. Make sure the garden soil has really warmed up before direct seeding. If planting in pots, then make sure to harden off the seedlings to wind and sun before transplanting, and don’t transplant out too early, wait until the soil has truly warmed. Thataway the plant (and you) won’t suffer from transplant shock. Space 1 foot apart.
